Comparison Review

Comfort
Rear passengers will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Mazda CX-50 than in the Volvo XC40. The Mazda CX-50 will be popular with taller drivers and passengers in the front seat, due to its greater front head- and legroom than the Volvo XC40.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). When looking only at MSRP, the Mazda CX-50 will have less of an impact on your bank account than the Volvo XC40.

Dimensions
The Mazda CX-50 is about the same width as the Volvo XC40. If you go with the Mazda CX-50, you may be circling the block looking for a space large enough to park more often than with the Volvo XC40.

Handling
The Mazda CX-50 has a smaller turning radius than the Volvo XC40, allowing you to more easily maneuver in and out of tight spots.

Performance
In terms of towing capacity, the Volvo XC40 is clearly the choice over the Mazda CX-50 for pulling heavy loads. The Mazda CX-50 has a little less horsepower than the Volvo XC40.

Powertrain
With its lower torque engine, the Mazda CX-50 doesn't do as good a job transmitting power to its wheels as the Volvo XC40.

Utility
In terms of seating, you'll be able to fit about the same number of people in both the Mazda CX-50 and the Volvo XC40. You'll be able to fit about the same amount of groceries in the Mazda CX-50 as you will in the Volvo XC40.
