RAM Overview:
For 2011, Dodge has formally split off its truck division into its own brand called Ram. Ram trucks will still be sold at the same dealerships, but will fall under the Ram umbrella instead of being badged as Dodges.
Dodge has been one of the most respected truck makers in the business, and that legacy continues as you get the same quality craftsmanship and rugged performance you’ve come to expect and love. Ram will also keep the distinctive ram’s horn badge which prominently adorns the face of each truck they roll off the line.
The models making the jump from Dodge to Ram are the Dakota compact truck, 1500 full-size truck, 2500 & 3500 heavy-duty trucks, and several other commercial vehicles.
Let’s start with the Dakota. The Dakota is the smallest truck in the Ram lineup, distilling Ram truck reliability and power into an easier to digest package. It is one of only two compact/midsize trucks with an available V-8, and can tow up to 7,250 pounds - very high for trucks in this segment.
The Ram 1500 light-duty truck adds two more variants, the Ram Outdoorsman and the luxurious Laramie Longhorn. The 1500 also offers its unique RamBox storage system, which places lockable storage boxes on the left and right sides of the bed around the wheel wells so you can utilize every square inch of the bed. Its standard coil-spring rear suspension also ensures that you get a smooth ride in the 1500, even with an empty bed.
The Ram 2500 and 3500 round out the heavy-duty pickup offerings. They are similar in look to the 1500, sharing headlamps and fenders with the smaller truck, but they both feature a larger grille which helps to cool the engine when hauling. The 2500 and 3500 can both tow up to 19,950 pounds with a fifth-wheel hitch.
