Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 17,000 2010 Lexus HS 250h hybrids after a government report warned of potential safety issues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported on June 25th that a rear-end collision might cause a fuel leak that "could result in a fire." In addition to the recall, Toyota has temporarily stopped the sale of all 2010 Lexus HS 250h hybrids.
The NHTSA report stated that in rear-end collisions at 50 mph, fuel spillage from the sedan exceeded federal regulations. Lexus is currently investigation the problem and said in a press release:
"At the present time, Lexus has not identified a remedy to address this issue, but it is working hard to do so promptly and will notify owners as soon as one is developed."
Once Toyota has developed a solution, HS owners will be able to bring their cars to the dealership for the fix.
