2011 Dodge Dakota Overview
If you’re looking for a midsize pickup that has impressive towing and hauling capabilities, coupled with several trims for added comfort and off-roading handling, then the 2011 Dodge Dakota is for you.
If a compact pickup is too small and full-size pickup is too big, you’ll be delighted with the middle-of-the-road Dakota. When it comes to power, however, there’s nothing average about it. Two available engines power the 2011 Dodge Dakota, starting with a 210-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 that outputs 235 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. For maximum power, a 302-horsepower, 4.7-liter V-8 pumps out 329 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to five-speed automatic. Both engines feature iron blocks and aluminum cylinder heads, while the V-8 is E85 FlexFuel compatible. Speaking of fuel, the 2011 Dakota receives 14-15 mpg in the city and 18-20 mpg on the highway.
Because the Dodge Dakota is one of the few midsize pickups that has a V-8, it is desirable for its towing and hauling capabilities. Tow up to 7,250 pounds or haul up to 1,810 pounds with the extended cab 4x2 trim, or 5,800 and 1,750 pounds respectively on all other V-8 models. Speaking of other trims, the 2011 Dakota is available in ST, Big Horn/Lone Star, and Laramie, while an off-road TRX4 package is available on 4x4 models. The Dakota is also available with an extended cab (6 foot 4 inches long) or crew cab (5 feet 3 inches) and a 131-inch wheelbase.
On the outside, the 2011 Dodge Dakota features sharp edges and distinct wheel flares that match the bold front end. A dual-position tailgate helps keep cargo corralled, while a sliding rear window is available on the extended cab. The TRX4 boasts that sliding rear window as standard equipment along with skid plates, front tow hooks and fender flares. The Laramie sits atop 18-inch alloy wheels and receives a standard bedliner, which is available in the Big Horn/Lone Star. If you plan on doing a lot of towing, then you might want to take advantage of the available 6-by-9-inch oversized side mirrors.
For a pickup, the 2011 Dakota features nice interior touches, including heated leather seating, white electroluminescent gauges, Alpine six-CD audio system, and Sirius Satellite Radio (standard in the Laramie). The Dakota is very roomy and utilizes under-seat Crate ‘n Go storage in the crew cab.
When it comes to safety, the Dodge Dakota adds side curtain airbags and four-wheel antilock brakes as standard equipment in 2011. Electronic brake-force distribution, Latch child-seat anchors, and the Enhanced Accident Response system, which turns on interior lights, unlocks doors and shuts off the fuel pump if the airbags deploy are all potential lifesavers.
Get unbelievable bang for your buck with power, off-roading capability, and several versatile trims with the 2011 Dodge Dakota midsize pickup.

This is our first truck purchase, we looked at Ford and Chevy and decided to go with the Dodge Dakota 4x4, 4 door, v-6, its been a great truck. We have taken our friends to the Kennedy Center and used for taking old household items to the dump, very practical and a great looking truck. So far, no problems or issues and we haven't had to use the 4 wheel drive yet. Overall, a great value for the money, comfortable to drive, roomy for people in the back seat and a truck bed just big enough to move our items.
