2012 Chevrolet Malibu Overview
Unchanged for 2012, the Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan returns with the same bold forward styling and flexible engine options.
Exterior options include 18-inch wheels and a glass sunroof. The Malibu isn’t as uniquely styled as some other entrants in this class, but it proudly displays the Chevy trademark two-bar corporate grille up front and a sculpted hood that hints at aggression without being too loud. V-6 equipped models get dual chrome exhaust tips out back.
Under the hood, you get the choice between an efficient 169-horsepower, 2.4-liter I-4 and a powerful 252-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6. Both of these engines incorporate variable valve timing which improves both performance and fuel economy, and come mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel economy varies widely depending on your choice of engine. Opting for the four-cylinder will get you 22 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, while choosing the more powerful V-6 drops those figures to 17 and 26 respectively.
The interior of the Malibu can be configured with a few different two-tone color schemes which give the cabin a classier appearance. Standard features include satellite radio, 60/40 split folding rear-seats, power windows and locks, and an auxiliary audio input. The Malibu can also be equipped with the usual optional features, such as automatic climate control, sunroof, powered and heated front seats, Bluetooth® connectivity, and a remote start system.
As required for 2012, an electronic stability system is standard, as are six airbags, four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, and six months of OnStar Automatic Crash Response.
Although it might be getting a little long in the tooth, the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu still holds plenty of appeal with its attractive interior and OnStar safety/navigation features.

We have less than 30 miles on our 2012 Malibu, so I can't write about long term reliability. Please ignore that 5 star rating.
Cons: Small trunk for its size, I think, but traded in a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, so the Malibu trunk is huge! Some minor 4 cylinder engine noise when accelerating.
Pros: Luxurious ride and comfortable seats. VERY quiet and roomy front seat interior. Super quiet cruising in town or on highway. Great sound system. Cruise control is smooth. I was immediately at ease in this car. My 30 year old son in law loves his, and it's superior for an old man like me, too!
